There’s a legend about an ancient Greek goddess, named Hera, who transformed one of her servants, Galinthias, into a black cat to punish him. This story evolved in the European Dark Ages, which is when the modern superstitions around black cats began to take shape. Black cats were associated with witches, as well as another ominous animal, the crow. Today, black cats are sometimes superstitiously considered conduits for the dark spirits that have escaped from their hot underworld corridors.
